Sea Freight Shipping From Port Pair to Inland Delivery
Sea freight shipping is bookings, cutoffs, and the truck after the terminal. Treat it as a project with documents, not as a longer LTL PRO.

Sea freight shipping is the operating name for getting a booking, making cutoff, sailing, and then getting the box or the loose cargo to a warehouse. It fails in the details: VGM, ISF on U.S. inbound, incorrect piece counts, and a chassis that is not there on free time day four.
COL Freight Solutions runs the inland with the same discipline we use on domestic FTL, and we coordinate the water with partners. If you treat sea freight shipping like an LTL pickup that happens to wet, you will meet demurrage personally.
The sea freight shipping checklist before cutoff
Verified gross mass, packing list that matches the carton count, and a commodity description customs will accept. Hazardous cargo needs the right DG paperwork or it does not load.
U.S. importers still have ISF timing. That is not COL inventing red tape; it is how inbound sea freight shipping is allowed to discharge.
- Port pair and whether you need door delivery
- FCL or LCL and estimated cube/weight
- Who files customs at origin and destination
LCL handling versus your own seal
LCL cargo is delivered to a CFS, consolidated, and deconsolidated. Count extra days and extra touches. FCL keeps your seal until the consignee or a bonded facility breaks it.
If you are shipping one pallet of spare parts, LCL may be the only sane sea product. If you are shipping a machine that hates extra forklifts, pay for FCL or use air.
After the vessel: the part COL lives in
Drayage appointments, last-mile FTL or LTL from the port railyard or terminal, and a receiver who actually has a door for a 40' container. Many warehouses do not. Transload to 53' vans is a real service, not a footnote.
Mexico inland from Manzanillo or Veracruz is Mexican highway freight. Do not assume a U.S. MC covers the Mexican tractor. COL will say who hauls which leg.
Cost lines that are not the ocean freight rate
THC, documentation, chassis, tolls, and examination fees can dwarf a pretty ocean line. Ask for a landed estimate with those named as estimates, not as zero.
COL will not invent exact dollar ocean tariffs in this article. The quote is the number that belongs to your cargo this week.

Send the packing list and the date the cargo is actually ready—not the date marketing announced. Request the quote with inland included unless you truly have port pickup.
