Houston–Mexico Freight from the Ship Channel to Laredo and Mexican Ports
Houston–Mexico freight starts at the Ship Channel more often than at a downtown warehouse. COL Freight Solutions connects Gulf industry to Laredo and to Mexican maritime gates.

Houston–Mexico freight is petrochemical, energy equipment, pipe, resins, and the industrial aftermarket that lives along the Ship Channel, Baytown, Pasadena, and the Beltway DCs. The over-the-road default toward most of industrial Mexico is US-59 / I-69 to the Laredo cluster—World Trade Bridge or Colombia Solidarity depending on the Mexican park. COL Freight Solutions books that land product as a licensed property broker, and we also coordinate truck legs when the better story is ocean through Houston or a Mexican Gulf port.
A downtown Houston pickup is not the same as a terminal on the channel with TWIC, night gates, and chassis. Tell us which one you have. Typical road time to Nuevo Laredo is a same-region haul by national standards; the clock that matters is still customs after the bridge, plus whether your freight is hazmat, overweight, or both.
When Houston should stay on the highway
Finished industrial goods, auto-adjacent components, and retail freight heading to Monterrey, Saltillo, or the Bajío usually want a sealed van or a flatbed on I-69. Dropping in a Laredo partner yard for Mexican linehaul is common. We will not invent a COL terminal on Loop 610 or in Laredo to make the brochure look local. Offices remain Saint Petersburg, FL, and Los Gatos, CA.
Oversized energy skids may need Texas permits before they ever see a Mexican bridge. That lead time is measured in days, not in a same-afternoon promise.
- Dry van FTL for palletized resins, packaged chemicals (when class allows), and parts
- Flatbed and stepdeck for pipe, valves, and uncrated equipment
- LTL only when the commodity and the Mexican customs story can share a trailer
When the Gulf is the freight product
Heavy project cargo, certain bulk and breakbulk, and lanes into Veracruz, Altamira, or Tampico can be cheaper or more realistic as ocean plus Mexican trucking. Houston is a natural load port. COL does not operate vessels; we arrange the truck to the pier, the inland tail, and the communication so the bill of lading and the Mexican pedimento are not two different novels.
If you already have a steamship booking, send the terminal and cutoff. If you do not, say so—we will not pretend a van to Laredo is a substitute for a 40-foot ocean box when the physics say otherwise.
Hazmat and industrial reality
Channel cargo is disproportionately classified. Placards, SDS, and Mexican hazardous rules must be on the table before we dispatch. Some classes face extra scrutiny at Laredo. Timing depends on customs and on whether the carrier is actually permitted for the UN number—not on a generic Houston-to-Mexico transit graphic.
